Designing an Art Gallery

The project began with a compelling question from the client: "How can we make users feel like they are visiting an art gallery from home?"

Instead of jumping straight into layouts, we used this question as an inspiration during our ideation process. We asked ourselves: What makes a physical gallery visit so unique? Is it the silence? The pacing? The curation? And how can we translate those subtle, tactile sensations into a digital environment?

The conclusion was that a traditional, flat website wouldn't be enough. We needed an immersive, multi-sensory design that seamlessly blended visual and auditory elements to capture the user's full attention.

We mapped out a framework based on three pillars:

The Chronological Flow

We structured the core user experience as a guided tour, taking visitors on a fluid journey through the years.

The Auditive Experience

To emulate the mood of a gallery, we integrated a soft instrumental soundtrack playing in the background.

Contextual Storytelling

To bring the art to life, we added professional audio narration from a curator for each piece, explaining its historical context and significance.

Guidance
and exploration

One of the trickiest UX challenges was the tension between a guided experience and user freedom. While the journey is curated chronologically, we designed flexible navigation controls ensuring users retain absolute autonomy over how, when, and at what pace they move through the artwork.

Fostering
human connection

A real gallery visit is an emotional experience that people often share or reflect upon. To recreate this online, we designed an interactive "reflection wall" within each artwork's view. This dedicated space allows users to anchor their thoughts, share their emotions, and connect deeply with a digital community of art lovers.
